Indian veteran Ishant Sharma has praised doughnut Virat Kohli’s strict fitness regime and diet. The Delhi cricketer has described Kohli’s transformation from party man to team player as the best part of the star’s career.
While Kohli is considered one of the best fighters of the current generation, there was a time around 2012 when some pundits questioned his commitment due to his reputation as a ‘party animal’.
Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s YouTube channel, Ishant opened up about Kohli’s amazing physical transformation. He said:
“He’s changed a lot. I’ve seen his party stage and his tattoo stage too.”
He recalls a particular incident from their Under-19 days, revealing how Kohli scored a double ton after partying all night. Ishant said:
“We were playing an under-19 match in Kolkata. He was batting overnight, but he pitched all night and the next day he scored 250. You saw that stage from Kohli too.” The 34-year-old continued, “The best thing about him, in my opinion, is how he changed his physical appearance starting in 2012, after the World Cup. He was training, but because of his diet, his mental strength and cricket in general took to a different level.”
Delhi people like to eat a lot, but he left it all. From 2012 to now, I’ve seen him eat a collie once or twice. On my cheat day, I have paneer naan,” claimed the fast bowler.
Kohli continues to regularly share videos and photos of his fitness training and workouts on his official social media handles. Also in his interviews, he often stresses the importance of fitness and diet for an athlete to achieve success.
Praising Kohli’s positive attitude towards cricket, Ishant said the word ‘hope’ does not exist in his dictionary as for him it is all about faith. The speed soccer player explained:
“Sachin (Tendulkar) Baji used to say hope is not a word, it is a feeling. But if you talk to Virat Kohli, the word hope is not in his dictionary. Only his dictionary has faith. If you have faith, you can do anything. It is very powerful.” .
Kohli will be part of the Indian squad for the multi-format tour of the West Indies, which kicks off on July 12.
