Arrested, Ershad will use high-quality banknotes, bright green foil paper and special ink to manufacture ‘high quality’ fake Indian coins at his shop in Uttar Pradesh.

Somewhat inspired by Shahid Kapoor’s web seriesSorta small goldsmith in Kairana in Uttar Pradesh has turned his shop into a counterfeit Indian (FICN) 2,000 rupee note printing press.

On being arrested, accused Ershad alias Bhuru told the police that he had incurred huge financial losses during the COVID-19 pandemic, and tried all “legal means” to earn money but was unsuccessful. And so he thought of making counterfeit currency notes.

Ershad, who had no formal education, told the police that after realizing the high demand for FICN and the profit margin, he started printing the notes in his shop with the help of his associates, and supplied them in Delhi/NCR.

They will use suitable raw materials such as premium quality paper sheets, green glossy paper and special ink to manufacture “high quality” FICN. Ershad told the police that they had bought the special ink after doing an internet search. One of his accomplices, and his co-accused, Tajim, who worked as a dyer in various states, would use his connections to distribute counterfeit banknotes.

The police received some information that a member of this cartel would come to Alipur in Delhi to deliver a shipment of counterfeit banknotes to a potential receiver. So the police team sets a trap and arrests him.

The police recovered high quality FICN equivalent to Rs 2,50,000 in 2,000 rupees notes from the recipient, who, after interrogation, revealed that he had received the FICN from his partner Ershad.

After that, it carried out a raid in Al-Qairana in the district of Al-Shamli and arrested Irshad in it. Furthermore, FICN recovered the equivalent of Rs 3,00,000 from his house.

A team from the Delhi Police Special Cell has been mandated to collect information about these cartels in light of the trafficking and circulation of high quality counterfeit banknotes in the capital and neighboring states like Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
