West Indies legend Chris Gayle has recreated Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous ‘Sio’ celebration on the pitch of the Toronto Blue Jays, drawing hilarious responses from former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.
In a pre-season friendly match against Chelsea in 2013, then-Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo began his famous “Siuu” celebration. Since then, many famous athletes have recreated Ronaldo’s celebration, with Gael being the latest addition. The legendary power hitter, who is set to participate in the T20 Global Canada League, recently visited the Blue Jays’ home stadium. Gael ran across the field, touching all the bases and performing Ronaldo’s “Siuu” celebration at the end.
The former Kolkata Knight Riders batsman uploaded an Instagram Reel of himself hitting a home demo, with the following caption:
“Getting ready for my house run tomorrow 😄😂 siuuuu 🔥bluejays”
Yuvraj Singh found the video hilarious and left a laughing emoji in the comments section.
Over the years, a few cricketers have honored Cristiano Ronaldo by emulating his celebration, including India internationals Virat Kohli and Mohamed Siraj.
When Cristiano Ronaldo explained the origin of his famous ‘Siuu’ celebration
In a 2019 interview, Cristiano Ronaldo talked about the origin of his legendary star “Sio”, which means “Yes!” In Spanish, the celebration. He said it came to him spontaneously during a pre-season match against Chelsea, and he found it surprising that the fans remembered him for it.
“We were playing against Chelsea, and I just scored. I did Siuuu,” Ronaldo said (via Essentially Sports).
“To be honest, it was natural, and since then, I’ve started doing it. I feel the support of the fans when they see me doing a Cristiano Siew celebration. I say ‘wow’. Since then, I’ve continued like this.”
During his legendary career, the former Manchester United and Juventus star became synonymous with famous celebrations. The “Calma Calma” celebration was born after scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 win over Barcelona at the Camp Nou in April 2012.
Last year at Manchester United, he created the Nab Celebration after scoring against Everton. It is believed that the 38-year-old made a self-deprecating joke during the celebration, as he often pesters him for taking a nap during the day.
