Bengaluru Football Club has acquired the services of Montenegrin defender Slavko Damjanović on a one-year deal until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Over the past few months, there have been reports linking the 30-year-old with several clubs. However, after his contract with ISL champions Mohun Bagan SG expired, Bengaluru FC moved quickly to secure his signature.

Damjanovic arrives at Bengaluru with a wealth of experience in Asia, Europe and the Indian Premier League. After his time in Serbia, the veteran defender joined FC Chennai for the 2021-22 season, where he played under fellow Montenegrin Bozidar Bandanović.

Overall, he made 19 appearances for Marina Machans and was a key part of the defence. Although the club finished outside the playoffs, Damjanović was certainly one of the bright spots in a disappointing season.

After just one season with the Chennai-based team, Damjanović moved to Serbian club Novi Pazar. However, halfway through last season, the defender returned to India, as Mohun Bagan SG signed him in January.

He played a vital role in the back end of the campaign and helped the Mariners lift the ISL Cup. A move to Bengaluru Football Club suits all parties and Damjanovic has shared his aspirations for next season with BFC media. Putting pen to paper on his deal, Damjanovic said:

“I am really excited to be part of the Bengaluru FC family. The club have had two great seasons, but have not had the luck to win the Indian Premier League title. I am looking forward to meeting my teammates, coaching staff and supporters. The goal is to give the fans the Indian Premier League title, I hope To be part of a team that is having a successful season.”

Having already secured the services of Halicaharan Narzary, the Blues will be keen to bolster their squad with new signings in preparation for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

“We are sure he will fit perfectly into our system” – Darren Caldera, Bengaluru Football Club Manager, on Slavko Damianovic

Damjanovic’s exceptional physique, along with his intelligent game awareness and ball-playing ability, undoubtedly brings great value to the Bengaluru football team.

Paying tribute to the defender, club manager Darren Caldera emphasized how Damjanovic’s presence adds balance to the squad and said:

“Slavko is a well-traveled and experienced defender who brings with him a winning mentality. Being a left wing centre-back, he brings with him a balance that will add to our defensive unit and we are sure will fit perfectly into our system. On behalf of the Bengaluru team, I wish him all the best in his career. his time at the club.”

With the departure of pivotal players, particularly in defence, such as Sandesh Jhingan, Alan Costa and Bruno Ramiers, Bengaluru FC has suffered significant losses. As a result, the acquisition of Damjanovic is a vital move for the Blues for them to challenge the firsts once again.
