Goat Row in Mira Road
A major row erupted on Tuesday evening when a section of the residents of a housing complex in Thane district in Maharashtra state objected to the family bringing a goat into his home.
Police rushed to the Housing Society located in Bhandar district following the accident. The news agency quoted an officer at the Police Station (SHO) at Meera Road Police Station, that they had discussions with the residents and calmed them down. PTI.
A video clip of the incident was circulated on social media platforms, in which some people were seen screaming and preventing the man from taking the goats to his home. The police official said the man informs the police every year in advance of the procedures for bringing a goat to his home before Bakrid because he has nowhere else to keep it. “The man takes the goat away the next day and does not slaughter the animal in his house,” the official said.
He said the man was later asked to remove the animal from his home in the presence of the police. The official added that no official complaint was received in this regard and no violation was recorded.
However, the issue escalated on Wednesday with political leaders weighing in that slaughter is not permitted anywhere except for designated places as mandated by the Mumbai High Court. Mohsen explained that he does not intend to sacrifice the goats in the community.
Mohsen told news channels that he brought the goats to his apartment after the construction worker refused permission to raise the goats in a designated place in the community.
He explained that every year he brings the goats and raises them in the place designated for them after obtaining the building permission, but this year the builders asked them to go to the management of the association.
Further to Mohin’s explanation, Jasmine said they had been living in the community for three years. “We said we would go to the slaughterhouse to sacrifice the goats, but no one was listening to us,” she added.
