The landslide was triggered on a section of Highway 7 which now stands cliffside, and was the road to Badrinath.
A landslide triggered by heavy rain washed away a section of a highway in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Thursday, trapping many tourists.
A part of Highway 7 has now been washed away, and it was the road to Badrinath. This section is located near Chinka and is now covered in debris.
This comes two days after more than 200 people, mostly tourists, stopped near Ott in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh amid heavy traffic jam caused by landslides and flash floods.

The highway remained closed for about 24 hours and several other major roads were closed due to landslides, including the Bangi-Kelar Highway (SH-26) in Dared Nala.
It comes as monsoon rains in India are set to cover the entire country by the end of this week.
The IMD projected the average amount of precipitation for the entire four-month season despite the formation of the El Nino weather pattern.
IMD chief scientist Dr Naresh Kumar said on Thursday that the monsoon is in its advanced stage and is active.
“In the next couple of days, Madhya Pradesh may see heavy to very heavy rains. More than 12 cm of rain is expected in the MP. We are forecasting very heavy rain (more than 20 cm) in parts of South Gujarat and Konkan Goa today. It Heavy rains are expected in eastern and northeastern India in the next five days.
