Kai Havertz has been revealed as a new Arsenal player following his move from Chelsea, and he has sent a message to Arsenal fans.

The Germany striker has joined alongside Mikel Arteta in a £65m deal, signing a long-term contract. The 24-year-old tweeted about his transfer and is excited to start running:

“A day to remember! Thank you for all the messages, I can’t wait to get started.”

Havertz becomes Arsenal’s first summer signing and joins a long list of ex-players who have played for Arsenal and Chelsea. He joined Arteta, who finished second in the league last season.

Arteta’s project has attracted the German forward, as he believes he could thrive under the Spanish tactician’s guidance. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano explained Havertz’s eagerness to head to north London:

“Havertz believes that playing for Arteta and Arsenal was the best project, not only in England, but all over Europe. Havertz believes that Arteta’s style, ideas and plans will only help make him a better player.”

The former Bayer Leverkusen player is hoping Arsenal can do better than they did at Stamford Bridge.

He failed to live up to expectations after his £75m move from the Bundesliga side to the Blues in 2020. He did score the winning goal in the West London club’s victory in the 2021 Champions League Final against Manchester City, though.

Havertz scored nine goals in 47 matches across Chelsea competitions in the 2022-23 season. He played as a false nine but is mostly an attacking midfielder. It is believed that Arteta will look into using him in midfield rather than attacking.

Ex-Chelsea striker Florent Malouda has discussed Arsenal’s signing of Havertz, comparing him to the signing of Gabriel Jesus last summer. The Brazilian arrived at Emirates from Manchester City for £45m as a four-time Premier League champion.

Malouda believes Arteta’s strategy is to sign players of a certain age who have seen trophy success, telling Genting Casino:

“I think that’s part of Arsenal’s strategy. They are looking to have players in their squad who are of a certain age and have experience of winning titles.

“You also have to think that Mikel Arteta has a development plan for Kai Havertz, and he will know exactly how to use him to improve Arsenal.”

Malouda continued by hinting at the signing of Jesus and also believes Havertz will be used as a midfielder:

“I think this is a similar signing to what happened when Arsenal bought Gabriel Jesus last summer. I definitely don’t see him in the ninth position. I see him as an attacking midfielder who can play around the striker.”

Jesus has enjoyed great success in the Emirates since his arrival last summer, playing a key role in last season’s North London title challenge. Scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 33 matches across competitions.
