SK Telecom “A.” (pronounced “dot”) The AI chatbot has a personality that talks to people. The company has consolidated its diverse services from music streaming to e-commerce into A. It plans to launch it fully in 2023.
SK Telecom, one of South Korea’s largest mobile carriers, said on Friday that it had upgraded its chat software and added a feature powered by Microsoft’s cloud and the technology behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
The company launched a beta version of A. – Pronounced “A dot” – in South Korea in May last year The product’s capabilities have been enhanced before its large-scale launch.
SKT has added a feature called “Chat T” to A. It is powered by the technology behind ChatGPT, based on Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI cloud computing service. Users can prompt the chatbot for answers, just as they can with ChatGPT.
The Korean telecom giant has also added a chat room function to A.I. which allows users to have conversations with an AI character.
“Through these conversations, users can share information about their daily lives as if they were talking to a close friend,” SKT said in a press release.
SKT tried to put A. as a different proposal to ChatGPT. A. contains a number of cartoon avatars that users can interact with. SKT said it has brought in more AI agents called “A-Friends.” to the product, and it is equipped with conversational AI technology that “enables emotional and human-like conversations”.
“By entering into conversations with ‘A. friends,’ users can receive advice and tips on a variety of topics,” SKT said.
Primarily known as the mobile network, SKT has been keen to diversify its business into new areas. The company plans to launch a flying taxi service in 2025, and CNBC reported in February that AI-based spin-off Sapeon is seeking a $400 million valuation through a new funding round.
