The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), in a bulletin on Friday, said 19,656 people were still affected by the flood.

An official bulletin on Friday said the flood situation in Assam has improved as the number of people affected has fallen to less than 20,000.

The number of affected people reached about 38,000 on Thursday and 83,000 on Wednesday.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), in a bulletin on Friday, said 19,656 people were still affected by the flood.

Parts of Barpeta, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup and Lakhimpur districts, Bajali (independent) sub-division were flooded.

The death toll from floods this year remained at seven as there were no reports of new deaths.

A total of 25 bridges were damaged in Nalbari, Parpetta, Dhobri, Karimganj and Sonitpur districts in the past 24 hours.

Bridges, roads, canals and irrigation canals were also damaged in many districts including Nalbari, Chirang, Sontpur, Dhubri and Goalpara.

The ASDMA report added that erosion was reported from Chirang, Jorhat and Sonitpur.
