One panel of judges, Nirzar S. Desai, denied Setalvad’s lawyer’s request for a temporary stay of the order which enabled her to move to the Supreme Court.
The Gujarat High Court on Saturday asked social activist Teesta Setalvad to surrender once her bail application was rejected. Setalvad is accused of fabricating evidence related to the 2002 Gujarat riots.
One female judge, Nirzar S. Desai, denied Setalvad’s lawyer’s request for a temporary stay under the order, which enabled her to move to the Supreme Court. Senior Advocate Mihir Thakur asked the court to stay execution of the sentence for 30 days, but Judge Desai rejected the request.
Setalvad was protected from arrest due to a temporary bail granted by the Supreme Court in September 2022.
