The Mumbai unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday canceled Jan Akrosh’s proposed protests in the city in light of the incident on the Samrodi highway in which at least 25 people were killed. The BJP had decided to demonstrate outside its state headquarters at Nariman Point and at Dadar in response to the Shiv Sena (UBT) anti-corruption protest rally at BMC headquarters that took place on Saturday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed their grief and extended a helping hand. The President and Deputy Prime Minister are also on the spot to help the injured. Mahayuti – Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena and Republican Party of India (RPI) – Yan Akrosh protests were to be organized at two places in Mumbai.
While the Yuva Morcha and allied parties in the Grand Alliance were convening the Jan Akrosh at the BJP’s State Office at Nariman Point, the Mahila Morcha and its allies were protesting against the Swami Narayan Temple at Dadar. The BJP said it is organizing the protest to highlight the corrupt practices of BMC under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray – led by Shiv Sena, alleging corrupt practices during the Covid-19 pandemic. A scheduled protest rally called for by Shiv Sena (UBT) against corruption in BMC was planned.
The civic body is currently managed by the administrator who is controlled by the state government of Ikanth Shinde and Devendra Vadnavis.
Chillar said on Saturday that although the protest was called off, the party would continue to question the “corrupt” civil administration under the Shiv Sena (UBT) rule.
While the BJP canceled its program in Mumbai, it decided to go ahead with the unity state event in Jalna, which Chandrashekhar Bawankule spoke about.
