A large number of parts across the state are still seeing heavy rains as waterlogging and other civil issues keep authorities on alert. On Saturday, at least 14 talukas recorded heavy rains that exceeded the 4-inch mark while 46 talukas recorded moderate rain. In some parts of the state, waterlogged roads were closed to traffic.
Dharampur taluka in Valsad district and Khirgam taluka in Navsari district saw the highest rainfall of 8 inches on Saturday. Normal life was thrown away as rainwater entered homes in areas near the Oranga River as water levels rose.
Due to heavy rains in the region, 81 roads were closed to public traffic on Monday. Waterlogging was seen in several low-lying areas in the town of Valsad and some villages in the area. Our teams are relocating 25 families in Valasad Nagar Palika district as water has entered the homes of people staying in low-lying areas. One of the villagers of Bhagal village has gone missing. “Our teams, together with the police, are working to help the affected families,” said Ksharepra Ajri, Valsad’s district collector.
According to details from the state’s Emergency Operations Center, more than 4 inches (more than 100 mm) of rain were received in 14 talokas. These include Visavadar taluka in Junagadh district at 165 mm, followed by Bhesan at 152 mm, Valsad taluka in Valsad district which recorded 138 mm precipitation, and Pardi taluka which received 136 mm, followed by Vapi at 131 mm.
The press release added that 19 talukas in Gujarat received an average of 2 inches of rain, while 45 talukas received between 1 inch and 2 inches of rain. Amidst heavy rains, more than 19 roads in different talukas in Surat district were closed to traffic, officials said.
