Motorola on Monday launched its latest foldable smartphones, the Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra, in India. Both devices have a fun new form factor with foldable screens. The company hopes to make foldable phones “mainstream,” with its new Razr foldable smartphone range. The Razr 40 and 40 Ultra cost Rs 59,999 and Rs 89,999, respectively.
Foldable smartphones are currently a niche segment of the overall smartphone market, but Motorola believes in the possibility of foldable devices in the long term. A close competitor in the foldable phone space is the South Korean heavyweight, which will announce new foldable phones later this month. Samsung continues to lead the market in the foldable smartphone segment.
The Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra are flip-style foldable smartphones that resemble the classic clamshell designs on earlier cell phones from the 2000s. The company hopes to recapture the success of its legendary Flip Razr from 2004, which became America’s best-selling phone of all time.
The main difference between Motorola Razr 40 Ultra and Motorola Razr 40 is the cover screen. The front screen on the Ultra is the largest external screen on any flip phone. The pOLED Cover Screen on the Ultra measures 3.6 inches and has a high refresh rate of 144Hz. The larger screen makes room for new types of use cases like playing games, controlling music, and more.
The Razr 40 Ultra has a 12MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide view sensor that fits up to 3x into the frame, as well as a 32MP selfie camera on the inner screen for video calls.
Motorola offers several exclusive features on the Razr 40 Ultra, which include dual capture, which allows users to shoot with both cameras, and mirror mode, which allows users to access a mirror-like cover screen with animated filters.

The Razr 40 is powered by the midrange Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, while the Ultra has last year’s flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
