Angel City FC forward Sidney Leroux has complained about her avatar in FIFA 23, claiming she’s completely unrecognizable in the hit soccer game.
FIFA 23, the most popular soccer game on the planet, has used high-resolution scans of soccer players to create vibrant in-game avatars. Soccer players had to go through tedious full-body scanning sessions in order to make their FIFA avatars look normal.
Most of the avatars in the game look pretty much okay, but former USWNT international Leroux didn’t have any fun with her FIFA 23 mod. Leroux has been given a fairly generic face in FIFA 23, unlike any of her features.
Unhappy with her avatar in FIFA 23, the 32-year-old complained (via Daily Star):
“Please tell me I didn’t do a full body scan for the sake of it…
“You will scare my children.”
She then posted a picture of her FIFA 16 avatar, urging EA Sports to use the same model in FIFA 23 after making a few minor tweaks.

She tweeted:
“They had a headband, braid, neck tattoos, overly puffy eyebrows, and one of them even made me squirm!!!!
“Deflate a bit and put on a different shirt. I’m going to keep my eyebrows at this point.”
Sydney Leroux, who won the World Cup in 2015, will join the Angel City Women’s National Soccer Team in 2022. Before moving to Angel City, she did her deals for the Orlando Pride. Between 2018 and 2022, she made 53 domestic appearances for them, scoring 16 goals.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino sheds light on the future of the FIFA franchise
It has been confirmed that FIFA 23 will be the final FIFA game to be developed by EA Sports. Going forward, EA Sports’ annual soccer game will be known as EA Sports FC, with Gianni Infantino claiming his organization will partner with other developers to continue the game’s legacy.
In May 2022, he said (via Gaming Bolt):
“I can assure you that the only real game with the FIFA name will be the best game available for gamers and football fans. The FIFA name is the only global original title. FIFA 23, FIFA 24, FIFA 25, FIFA 26 etc. – The constant is and will always be the name FIFA. Always the best “.
While EA Sports will sorely miss the FIFA brand, FIFA itself may struggle to create a developer capable of preserving the game’s legacy.
It is also believed that FIFA is determined to roll out a non-exclusive model in the future, which means that many developers will have the right to use the organization’s license.
