ISRO Announces Free Online Course on Remote Sensing With Certification

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has invited applications for a free online course called Developments in remote sensing technologies for geological applications. The course will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) under ISRO.

The course will cover an overview of remote sensing technology and its applications in geological problems – including the role of optical, thermal, microwave and hyperspectral RS in geosciences, among other topics.

The curriculum is suitable for undergraduate or final year postgraduate students in Earth sciences, scientific staff in central or state governments, and faculty or researchers in universities and institutions. Users receiving programs within the CEC-UGC or CIET networks may also participate.

Things to know

• The course is free.
• It can be completed within 10 days.
• Course materials – such as lecture slides, video-recorded lectures, link handouts and important demos – will be made available through online classes.
• There is a limited number of seats available. Registration will take place on a first come, first served basis.
• A certificate will be awarded to participants who have at least 70 percent attendance in the course and at least 40 percent in the online test.

How to apply

• Applications must be submitted online.
• To participate in this programme, interested organizations, universities, departments and institutes are required to select a coordinator at their end.
• The selected coordinator will have to register his/her institute as a contract center on the IIRS website. The link for this They can be found here.
• The course can then be taken by registered participants through the IIRS-ISRO e-class platform.
