After the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was revoked, several bunkers were built in response to perceived security threats, which were removed prior to the G20 event in the city.

According to the sources, the security presence was minimized during the G20 meeting in order to deliver a positive message to the world. The sources added that the smart bunkers will show the improvement of the security situation in Srinagar and thus attract more tourism to the valley.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police are planning to implement what they call the ‘invisible police’ for the upcoming G20 meeting. About 600 policemen are being trained at the Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy in Udhampur, Jammu, for soft police skills.

The government will also activate the control room this week to ensure the smooth functioning of all existing facilities for the meeting. Security forces have begun clearing the areas around the G20 headquarters in Srinagar. As part of tourism promotion measures, a well furnished and decorated shikara has been scheduled for the Dal Lake rides for the visiting G20 delegates.
