Arsenal thrashed Chelsea 3-1 at the Emirates on Tuesday (2 May) in the English Premier League. A brace from Martin Odegaard and a strike from Gabriel Jesus helped Mikel Arteta’s side survive the title race.

Meanwhile, eight clubs are interested in Bryce Nelson ahead of the summer. Elsewhere, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta is planning a conversation with West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice to persuade him to move to the Emirates.

On that note, here’s a look at key Arsenal transfer stories as at 3 May 2023:

Eight clubs want Reese Nelson

Reiss Nelson is not short of options ahead of the summer, according to transport expert Fabrizio Romano.

The England striker has struggled to get his game time at Arsenal this season, scoring three goals and providing several assists in 14 appearances. The 23-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he has been closely linked with Milan.

Speaking on the House of Champions podcast, Romano said the Rossoneri are among seven and eight clubs eyeing Nelson:

“It’s true; it’s true that Milan are among the clubs interested in Reiss Nelson. It’s not just Milan; it’s like seven or eight clubs who have approached the player and his agents. There are many possibilities – in England, in the Eredivisie, in Serie A, Romano said. In different countries, they approach the player because it is a very big opportunity on a free transfer.”

he added:

“Reiss Nelson is considering it, but he also has a proposal from Arsenal to extend his contract. So, it is not yet certain that he will leave Arsenal on a free transfer. That is why everything is open.”

Arsenal are expected to boost their attack this summer, so the 23-year-old may not be guaranteed regular playing time if he extends his contract.

Mikel Arteta plans the appeal of Declan Rice

Mikel Arteta plans to approach Declan Rice to persuade him to move to the Emirates this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The England international is a priority target for Arteta this summer. The Spaniard wants to add more quality to his midfield ahead of the start of the new season and has set his sights on the 24-year-old.

Rice has been fantastic for West Ham United since breaking into the first team and is among their most important players. However, his contract with the Hammers expires next summer, but an extension seems unlikely. The Englishman is not short of options, with Chelsea also among the clubs eyeing him with interest.

However, Arsenal are hoping their fine form this season can turn the tide in their favour. Arteta is also willing to go out of his way to bring Rice to the Emirates.

Emmanuel Petit said Arsenal made a mistake by signing Fabio Vieira

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes Arsenal made a mistake by signing Fabio Vieira last summer.

The Portuguese midfielder arrived from Porto with a huge reputation but failed to live up to the hype at the Emirates. The 22-year-old has appeared as a substitute under Arteta, netting two goals and six assists in 31 appearances across competitions.

Speaking to Betting Comparison, Petit said Vieira does not have the fitness to succeed in the Premier League.

“I don’t think Fabio Vieira has shown yet, that he’s the right level to play for Arsenal. When he signed, I said to myself, ‘This guy looks too lightweight for the Premier League.’ I think he’s ready for the Premier League both physically and mentally.”

He completed:

“You could also say he struggled not to get consistent playing time, and when you compare him to Emile Smith Rowe, who I think has a future with Arsenal, he’s just not the same. Respectfully, I think it might have been a mistake to sign Vieira.”

Arsenal is expected to invest in the midfield towards the end of the season.
