Political Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Krishan Kumar Bedi, has tendered his resignation. Khattar, who is currently on a three-day tour of Kurukshetra, has not decided on Bedi’s resignation yet.

While speaking to The Indian Express, Bedi, who was appointed Political Secretary to the Chief Minister in November 2019, said that the main reason behind his resignation was the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and he felt he needed to “spend more time among the people of the state”.

“It was taking a long time to work in the prime minister’s office since I was entrusted with the responsibility as political secretary to the prime minister. I used to spend five days in Chandigarh while I had only two days left to be in my constituency or other areas. Several leaders of the Congress party had waged a virulent campaign against our party in several areas across the state. To counter the disinformation campaign, I felt someone needed to get into the field and give the real picture to the people,” Bedi said.

“It is important for all of us to ensure that the party wins for the third time in a row. This is the main reason why I said I needed to spend more time in the field than in the prime minister’s office.”

Refuting speculation of an ongoing rift with JJP MLA Ram Karan, who represents the Shahbad constituency in Kurukshetra district, Bedi said, “There is no such thing. He (Ram Karan) was elected as MLA three and a half years ago. Since then we have been working together.” He’s doing his duty and I’m doing his. There’s no crack. The main reason I quit is just to spend more time among the people in my constituency as well as in other areas of the state.”

Bedi said he had a discussion about this with Khattar about a month and a half ago. “I conveyed my feelings to the Prime Minister to tell him that I would like to spend more time among the people,” Bedi said.

He added that the BJP had given him the responsibility of sponsoring the party’s campaign in 11-12 districts and for this he needed time to visit all these areas and be among the people.

Bedi had contested the 2014 General Assembly elections from Shahbad constituency and won with barely more than 500 votes and was appointed Minister of State. He was defeated in the same constituency by JJP’s Ram Karan in the 2019 assembly elections. He suffered another setback in June last year when his son Gaurav Bedi, who had contested Ward No. 9, lost out to Bedi and supported independent candidate Tilak Raj Agarwal, who was He is vying for the post of Chief of the Shahabad Civic Authority, in the municipal committee polls.

Party sources said Bedi had been active in Sirsa – a reserved constituency in the Lok Sabha represented by BJP’s Sunita Duggal, for the past year. He was expected to seek the party’s ticket from Sirsa in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“It is up to the party to decide whether to submit to me and where to place me in the next election. As a party worker, my duty is to be among my statesmen and work in the interest of my party. Whatever responsibility is entrusted to me, I will fulfill it.”
