Pokemon GO has been embroiled in controversy recently, particularly when it comes to changes made to the remote raiding system. A full push-back campaign known as #HearUsNiantic emerged, and many players boycotted the game until Niantic met certain expectations. However, the company appears to be hoping to bring gamers back to the mobile title with some rewards.

One example was pointed out by Pokemon GO Redditor RebelSpeed, who posted a screenshot of an email from Niantic that read, “We miss you.” The email offers a free promo code for in-game items. However, Player was unimpressed by the offer, saying, “I didn’t buy my attention Niantic, try harder.”


Pokemon GO fans react to Niantic’s attempts to get players back into the game

It should be noted that Niantic and Pokemon GO aren’t the first to send out emails trying to bring back inactive users. This tactic is used by companies everywhere, outside of and within the gaming space.

However, many fans mocked Niantic in the comments, stating that the rewards the company would offer wouldn’t be beneficial for players to return to the mobile title. For many players who have already left the game, the developer’s attempt to convince them to come back with some Pokeballs or Potions just isn’t going to cut it.

Former Pokemon GO player LankyEm Emergency7992 has put his decision to leave the game into broader perspective. To hear them say it, they’re saving money and enjoying life a lot more since leaving the game after Niantic’s controversial stance on the remote raid system.

Changes announced in March burned parts of the player base, many of whom have health or location-related reasons for not being able to access personal raids, which Niantic appears to be consistent in supporting via remote raids.

The backlash against Niantic and the Pokemon GO trend has been raging for months, or even years, for some players. However, changes that limited remote raid activity and increased the price of remote raid lanes were the last straw for some fans.

To prevent Niantic from collecting money via microtransactions or selling location data, the coaches uninstalled the game and refused to return until the company made substantial changes. However, Niantic appears to be sticking with its current plans and hasn’t made much of an effort to seriously respond to the concerns of its fanbase.

Despite the furor over the recent changes, many players are still active and still likely provide a lot of income for Niantic. While some fans may see these emails because the company has become desperate to bring back departed coaches, it is more likely that this is standard procedure for the company and its bottom line hasn’t been significantly affected.

There isn’t enough data or stats yet to confirm how much fan dissent has hurt Niantic. Maybe things will get a little clearer in a few months as the game’s calendar of events continues.
