Mumbai Indian (MI) goalkeeper Ishan Kishan has quipped that teammate Suryakumar Yadav always gets the better of him whenever he’s having a good day with the Willows.

Kishan and Suriyakumar were the star performers in Mumbai’s six-wicket win over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 in Mohali on Wednesday, May 3. After MI were set to chase 215, Kishan (75 off 41) and Suryakumar (66 off 31) added 116 for the third wicket as Mumbai came home in 18.5 overs.

In a post-match video posted on iplt20.com, the Mumbai players discussed their roles and the team’s victory. During the interaction, Kishan sarcastically said:

When you were hitting Sam Curran all over in one place just before the strategic time-out, I was thinking – Jess den mera asha inwar aata hin, we have din ye bora credit lo gat hin yaar (Whenever you do well, on the same day, it takes all Credit). That way, people won’t talk about me.”

While Kishan was the man of the match, Suryakumar’s innings also grabbed a lot of eyeballs. On the 13th, Sam Curran smashed a sixty-forty, racing to his half-century.

On a serious note, Kishan told Suryakumar that striking the latter’s aggressive one-sided action helped his cause. The left-hander explained:

“It was a good start. During the important phase, I got into the bat and started playing good shots. This relieved pressure on me. That was a huge positive in the game and put me in a comfort zone. I can play my (natural) game.”

While Kishan hit seven fours and four sixes, Suryakumar hit eight forty maximums.

“They have put in a lot of hard work in the last 48 hours” – Suryakumar Yadav thanks the doctors

In the video, Kishan revealed that Suryakumar had been unwell for the past two days and had been in constant touch with the physicists. There was uncertainty about his match preparation.

Giving details of it, Suryakumar said:

“I want to thank the physicists. They put in a lot of hard work in the last 48 hours to get me ready for the game, even sacrificing their sleep.”

In his batting effort, the 32-year-old said:

“I didn’t do anything different. It was just hitting like I usually do. I wanted to play some shots and make things easier for the team.”

Prior to signing, Ishan stated that he was pleased with his doing well in front of his father and would like him to attend the remaining MI matches as well. Southpaw commented:

I asked him to come. MI management also asked him to come because the upcoming matches will be very important for the team. I asked him to come. We hope he agrees and we win the next matches as well.”
