Barcelona coach Xavi is reported to be ready to sell Eric Garcia, Franck Kessie, Rafinha, Jordi Alba and Ferran Torres to improve the club’s finances and sign new players this summer.

According to Fichajes.net, the Blaugrana need to reduce their wage bill by €200m to comply with Financial Fair Play rules and sign new players. Barcelona are expected to sell several first-team players to achieve their goals, and Xavi has reportedly prepared a list of players he could dispense with.

Garcia, the first name on the list, has yet to establish himself as a member of Xavi’s best eleven. The center back is behind Ronald Araujo and Jules Conde in the standings, which makes him an underdog for the Catalan team.

After a slow start, Kessie has enjoyed a solid run, producing impressive performances whenever called upon. Many Premier League clubs are believed to be interested in the midfielder and Barcelona want to cash in.

Like Kessie, several Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in Ravenha. He was a key player under Xavi but his performance wasn’t always at a good level. His market value is high and the club is ready to sell the former Leeds United player at the right price.

Alba, 34, is the oldest player on this list. The second left back has been doing well when posted, but his high salary complicates his continued participation.

Finally, there’s Torres, who hasn’t worked out since joining the squad in January 2022. Xavi is said to want to get rid of players who could command large transfer fees but aren’t an integral part of his plans.

Lionel Messi, Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martínez are believed to be the Blaugrana’s top three summer targets. They also need to sign one of their prized assets, Gavi, whose contract expires at the end of June.

Barcelona are no closer to signing Lionel Messi, despite PSG’s imminent exit

According to Fabrizio Romano, Lionel Messi is set to leave PSG as a free agent at the end of his contract in June. Many clubs have been linked with a move for the 2022 World Cup winner, Barcelona being the most prominent. The Catalan giants have already confirmed their interest in him, with vice-present Rafael Yusti revealing that the club has been in contact with Messi’s camp.

However, according to GOAL, Barcelona are not making progress in their quest to win the Ballon d’Or seven times. It was said that they were no closer to returning the Argentine icon to Spain than they were two months ago. Not only do they have to fix their finances, but they also need to fend off competition from foreign clubs.

It has been claimed that Messi has a huge offer from Saudi Arabia that promises to make him one of the highest paid players of all time. In addition, MLS side Inter Miami are legitimately interested in adding Messi to their ranks, while two other Premier League clubs are keeping an eye on his situation.

On the other hand, Barcelona has yet to make an official offer for Messi. Unless their fortunes turn around for the better, Xavi’s side may find it very difficult to bring the record goalscorer back to the Camp Nou this summer.
