Former Australian footballer Tom Moody thinks it is worth supporting Rohit Sharma despite his poor performance in IPL 2023. The former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach believes Rohit brings a lot of value as a captain, not just as a batsman.
The Mumbai Indians captain is in poor form this season, hitting 184 in nine innings, including a duck against the Punjab Kings on Wednesday in Mohali. The right-hander also scored two single-digit scores prior to this.
Speaking to state radio, Modi believes Ishaan Kishan is back in form, given a 41-ball 75 against the Punjab Kings. Despite their low score, South Australia feel Mumbai can persevere with Rohit because of their depth of batting.
“That’s a concern, but I suppose from the point of view of Mumbai Indians, Ishan Kishan, that was another concern that led to this game (PBKS vs. MI). Both openers are no runs. Run and fly. Next up is Rohit Sharma. When he is You have depth in quality, MI has it, you can be patient with someone like Rohit Sharma because of the value he brings to the table as a leader.”
Kishan, who was finding his feet, top-scored with 75, compiled with seven fours and six sixes. The left-hander added 116 with Suryakumar Yadav as the five-time hero knocked down 214 with seven balls to spare.
Modi feels Rohit’s value is similar to that of MS Dhoni in the playing XI, stating:
“You look at the value MS Dhoni has for CSK. He’s only made two impacts with the bat and that’s only because he sits at the back in the batting order. There’s more to Rohit Sharma than a batsman. A captain, he’s calm-minded and successful. He’s a winning captain. Many championships.
With their six-wicket win over the Punjab Kings, the Mumbai Indians moved up to sixth on the table. The race for the playoffs heats up, with the top seven teams closing in on each other in terms of points.
