British Council awards EARTH scholarships to two Indian students

The British Council has selected two Indian scholars for EARTH grants, who will now have the opportunity to work in Scottish universities. These selected scholars are Kamilia Biswas and Ajmal S. livelihood.

Biswas is a PhD researcher in Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Gandhinagar. You will visit and work in collaboration with the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) to examine the ecocultural evolution of human seal relationships in the Northern Islands of Scotland across space and time to understand climate emergencies and conservation actions.

Rasaq is a fifth year PhD student in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Guwahati. He will work in the School of Geographical and Earth Sciences at the University of Glasgow, where he will explore how climate change has altered the relationships between landowners and agricultural work in the rice paddies of Chelanam, a coastal suburb of Cochin, Kerala.

Selected researchers will be offered research placements, internships and networking opportunities with PhD researchers based in Scotland, as well as industry and community partners for a period of three months.

Land Grants is provided jointly by British Council Scotland and the Scottish Graduate School of Arts and Humanities. These scholarships are designed to spur greater action against the climate crisis, encouraging global and interdisciplinary collaboration with a focus on environmental sustainability topics and arts and humanities interventions.
