A media report says that a 32-year-old man of Indian origin has been charged with posting an online post calling for the death of Singapore President Halimah Yacob by hanging near Parliament House.

The Straits Times reported that Vickerman Harvey Chettiar, who is out on bail for previously being accused of corruption and harassment, said in an Instagram post on April 30 that President Halimah should be hanged near Parliament House.

Vickerman was out on S$10,000 bail when he was alleged to have made the post about President Halima.

He is said to have a history of instigating altercations on several occasions including the one in the High Court House on February 3, 2020.

On November 15, 2021, Vickermine allegedly threatened a police investigating officer and hoped terrorists would attack the police squad headquarters.

The report stated that Deputy District Attorney Sean Lim had applied to have Vickerman’s bail revoked due to the latest charge involving President Halimah, because the bail clause may have been breached.

Lim also told the county judge that Vickerman had shown an escalation in his behavior and requested that he be remanded to the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).

“I realize vigilantism is not uncommon here in Singapore, but I hope someone steps in!” Vickermin allegedly said.

He has been ordered detained at IMH to undergo a medical examination, and his case has been adjourned to May 19.

The report stated that matters relating to bail will be dealt with later.

If found guilty of harassing President Halimah, he could be imprisoned for up to a year and fined up to S$5,000. The report added that according to Singapore law, the perpetrator of mischief can be imprisoned for up to a year and fined.
