Kerala Story producer Vipul Shah on Friday said his team is happy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proven their stance that the film is against terrorism and not any society.

At a rally in Ballari district of Karnataka, the Chief Minister referred to the film in his speech and said, “It is under discussion these days; the film is said to expose terrorist plots in that state.”

Vipul Shah, who produced The Kerala Story and serves as creative director, also said he was glad the Kerala High Court refused to suspend the film’s release on Friday.

“What more could we ask for on a day when the High Court of Kerala issues such a beautiful judgment on the first day in the morning, and none other than the Honorable Chief Minister talking about our film and highlighting the issue we are trying to highlight through the film .

Shah told PTI, “We have said that this is a film against terrorism and terrorism and not against any society or religion and this position is only proven by the honorable Prime Minister.”

The director said the court order is “a response to everyone who was trying to target us and tell us we made this movie with some kind of agenda.”

The HC refused to stop the release of The Kerala Story, saying that the trailer contained nothing offensive to any particular community as a whole.

Judges Panel N Nagaresh and Sophy Thomas noted the producers’ submission which stated that they did not intend to retain the “offensive humour” containing a statement that “32,000 women” from Kerala were converted and joined a terrorist organization.

The Kerala High Court also noted that the producers had posted a disclaimer with the film which specifically states that the film is a dramatization of events and makes no claims to accuracy or realism of historical events.

Vipul Shah said the Kerala story is getting a good response from the audience.

Today, the film opened to an unprecedented set of records and the trend is getting bigger by the hour. So, we can’t predict where it stops and where the number will be on day one. The nation supports the film, the nation supports the cause we were trying to make.

Kerala Story, starring Adah Sharma, hits cinemas on Friday and was initially portrayed as “revealing” the events behind the “nearly 32,000 women” who allegedly disappeared from Kerala.

According to CPI(M) and the Kerala Congress, the film falsely claims that 32,000 women were radicalized and deployed on terrorist missions in India and the world.
