The power outage was confirmed by the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) department of Odisha
Electricity went out at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhaniya Deo University in Paripada on Saturday when President Draupadi Mormo was giving a speech plunging the entire hall into darkness. The power outage lasted for nine minutes before it was repaired.
However, the president continued to deliver her speech in the dark as the microphone system in the venue was unaffected. The air conditioning system is operating normally.
The electricity reportedly went out shortly before the president began her speech.
The power outage was confirmed by the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) department of Odisha. “From 11.56am to 12.05pm the power failed and the whole auditorium was in darkness; sorry for the inconvenience.”
Vice-Chancellor Santosh Kumar Tripathi expressed regret over the incident and apologized for the imbalance of power during President Mormo’s address. He added that a three-member committee was formed to investigate the incident.
I am so sorry and blame myself for the unfortunate incident. Ashamed of power outages. We will definitely investigate the accident and action will be taken against the people responsible for the accident.”
An official in the electricity department at the university has been suspended.
On the other hand, Northern Division RDC Suresh Chandra Dalei chaired the high-level meeting on the incident and discussed the hurdle with the district collector and Tata Power officials.
Meanwhile, Tata Power, CEO of North Odisha Power Distribution Limited, Bhaskar Sarkar, said there was no distribution break in the hall and the fault may have been caused by some faults in the electrical wiring.
