London: Coronation of a King Charles It will seek to blend the ancient rituals of a ceremony dating back nearly 1,000 years with the most diverse modern facet of Britain and his many beliefs, the Service Medal illustrates.
Watched by around 100 heads of state and dignitaries, Charles will be crowned on Saturday at Westminster Abbey, which has staged all coronation ceremonies since William the Conqueror in 1066.
Coronation rituals have been modified over the centuries, the Order of Service says, to adapt to changing needs, and Charles’s ceremony will for the first time include a procession of religious leaders and the participation of those who “reflect the diversity of the United Kingdom and its peoples in stark contrast to what was the case seventy years ago”.
Charles, as a monarch who is supreme ruler of the Church of England and titled “Defender of the Faith,” has long argued that he wishes to be a defender of all faiths and has spoken extensively about his commitment to Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism, and others.
According to the order of service, the King will for the first time at a coronation “pray publicly for the blessing to be ‘a blessing to all … of every faith and belief'”.
He also notes that those who present the monarch’s historic regalia, including the wands and scepter, and a ring and spoon, “will reflect the diversity of the United Kingdom and its peoples, in stark contrast to what it was seventy years ago.”
The King’s love of nature would also be reflected in his wife’s clothing, Queen Camillawho will also be crowned. Her dress will contain bees, a beetle, and a number of plants.
