The two main suspects have been arrested by the Surat Police recently Suraj Yadav is killed in broad daylight, 27 years old, in the city. The duo – Karan Singh Rajput and Dheeraj Singh – were arrested near Vadodara late on Friday.
Sagar Bajmar, Deputy Commissioner of Police District 3 said, “We have arrested the accused, Karan Rajput and Dheeraj Singh, late Friday night from Karjan district near Vadodara. Three criminal cases have been registered against Rajput and Singh at different police stations… Karan Rajput wanted to avenge the death of his gang member Durgesh Yadav, who was killed by Suraj and two of his friends. We are trying to find out more information about the accused. We have collected CCTV footage and also taken statements of some eyewitnesses in Suraj Yadav’s murder case.”
Suraj, a resident of Sachin district, was killed on his way to the Surat District Court. Two youths intercepted his bicycle and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons near the cable-stayed bridge opposite the Surat District Court. Suraj was accompanied by his friend Ravi Chauhan, who ran away from the place, but Suraj was caught by the attackers.
Indrajit Yadav, the father of the deceased, has filed a complaint in connection with the killing with the Umrah Police Station.
On Friday afternoon, an autopsy on Suraj’s body was conducted by a panel of seven doctors from the forensic medicine department of the New Civil Hospital in Surat.
Sources said that more than 37 injuries occurred in Suraj’s body. “Two weapons were used – one measuring 2.5 cm wide and the other 4 cm wide. Both hands were injured… It seems that he was defending himself from blows. Seven injuries occurred in the throat and neck, while the remaining deep injuries were found in the chest and abdomen,” said a doctor, who stipulated Anonymity “The liver, intestines and trachea were damaged, causing his death.”
Speaking to Indian Express, Sooraj’s elder brother Chandan Yadav said, “After Sooraj was out of jail on bail around three months ago, he was getting regular threatening calls and messages from Karan Rajput and they were demanding money from him. Sooraj shared some call recordings and WhatsApp messages with me. We were We had lodged a request with Sachin GIDC Police Station regarding such a threat, but no action was taken and it eventually resulted in the death of my brother. If the police would have taken action in time, my brother would have been saved.”
DCP Bagmar said, “We have sought details from Sachin GIDC Police Station in connection with the police application made by Suraj Yadav.”
Chandan further said, “Out on bail, Sooraj was kept present at all the dates of the case proceedings before the Surat District Court. Earlier, he was accompanied by five to six youths in his own car, but on Friday, his car was sent to the garage for repair, so he left with Ravi Chauhan on the bullet to court.”
