Heavy Rains Likely in Andaman & Nicobar; No Heatwave for Next 5 Days Across India

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are set to see heavy rains from May 8 to 11, due to the cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify from Tuesday. The cyclonic storm is named Cyclone Mocha.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest bulletin that the cyclonic circulation is located over southeast Bengal, which is forming in the low pressure area.

This will intensify into a depression around May 9 and become a cyclonic storm thereafter.

As a result, Andaman and Nicobar will receive rainfall from May 9 and very heavy rains from May 10, IMD said.

The Meteorological Department added that winds may reach 60 km/h in these areas from May 7. Winds may increase to 80 kmph from May 10.

Due to the weather conditions, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning in which fishermen, small vessels and trawlers are advised not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea from Sunday.

People staying in southeast Bay of Bengal have also been advised to return to safer places before May 9.

The Meteorological Department also warned against carrying out tourism and marine activities during this period.

Other predictions

There will be no heat waves in most parts of the country for the next five days. However, maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 3 to 5 degrees in the same period.

Meanwhile, northwest India will see rains in isolated places in the western Himalayan region.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will see hailstorms on May 6 and 7.

Going down to the south, heavy rains are likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh during Saturday.
