Fans on Twitter have demanded that Rajasthan Royals (RR) give England batsman Joe Root a run in the side after the team lost nine wickets against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday 5 May.

The Royals could only manage a total of 118 after choosing to bat first on a pitch that contained dry patches and turfed areas. Neither captain knew what to expect from the pitch at Sawai Mansing.

RR captain Sanju Samsun (30) was the best running back for the hosts as the batting order collapsed after his dismissal. Gujarat Titans chased the target with 37 balls to spare and nine wickets in hand to retain first place in the points table.

Rajasthan Royals is yet to hand over a game to Joe Root, who was bought at his starting price of INR 1 crore. In fact, the former England Test captain is waiting for his IPL debut.

With 249 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 146.47, Root was the third highest run scorer in the 2016 T20 World Cup held in India, where England finished second. The England batsman scored 375 T20Is in nine innings at an average of 53.57 and a strike rate of 128.86 in India.

Many believed that Root could adapt to the sluggish conditions in Jaipur and anchor the roles. Some fans have criticized the Royals management for taking on Root even though their other overseas players have not contributed significantly.

Here are some opinions on Rajasthan Royals leaving Joe Root on the bench for their last 10 league matches:

Joe Root should play for @tweet Next game. Never mind who…. No one from Overseas is current in batting form including Joss. Take away Jaiswal’s contribution from this IPL It’s a struggle #RRvGT

RR needs to consider playing Joe Root on some of these two-step decks at home.

Joe Root must be sitting there wondering, have I reached a point in my career where Parag has more value on the team than I do and I’m just a waste?

In blind faith in failed myths, RR ignored real match winning myth like root. Reckless arrogant management

Just get Joe Root instead of Hettie/Zampa drop DDP and useless Parag he doesn’t even play.. Root could be the one who can make our middle order stronger with his Kinda Batting anchor@employee

Sad to see World Champion Joe Root as Water Boy

@employee Joe Root needs to play. Samsung and Butlerr should rest.

@tweet Joe Root should be worth a chance against Heitmeyer, Butler and Bearer. What’s Ryan Barrage’s worst decision then? # Yarot The effect of the player at the same time the result will be different.

RR management should consider Joe Root to make the middle order strong and some replace the 4th outside with some Indian bowlers like Kuldip Yadav. Root can roam. At least try it. Even not prosecuting him only shows either arrogance or foolishness.#GTvsRR #RRvsGT

Time for Rajasthan Royals to give Joe Root his IPL debut hat in place of Holder/Hetmer. It will certainly upset their groups – but they have to fix their combat problems.

A setback for Rajasthan Royals’ chances in the qualifiers

With back-to-back defeats against Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals slipped to fourth place in the points table.

RR has won five matches and lost many matches this season so far. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) share one point each due to rain in Lucknow. Teams are placed in second and third place, respectively.

Rajasthan is currently tied on 10 points with three other teams. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians each played one match less than RR.

MI and RCB will have the chance to dislodge RR from fourth place on Saturday, May 6, when they take on CSK and Delhi Capitals in their respective matches.
