Delhi Capitals (DC) grabbed two crucial points when they thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by seven wickets in the 50th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, May 6.

It was an all-round performance by the hosts, led by full-back Phil Salt who smoked 87 runs off just 45 balls.

Opening the batting alongside David Warner, the DC pair came out with a positive intent in their chase of 182. While Warner lost his wicket for 22, Salt continued his attack not allowing any RCB bowlers to settle.

Then he formed a 59-run partnership with Mitchell Marsh and brought DC closer to the target. Riley Russo, batting at number four, also smashed three sixes on a 35* knockout. Salt, who cleared bounds eight and a racy six out, was unfortunate to be undefeated to the finish as a steal from Karn Sharma ended his stay in the 16th over.

In the next innings (17th), Rosso hit a six deep mid-wicket to record an emphatic victory over RCB.

Earlier, RCB chose to bat after winning the toss. Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli continued their impressive run with the bat, amassing 82 runs for the opening wicket. While Pfaff was dismissed for 45, Kohli scored his sixth half-century of the season (55).

After Marsh put DC back into the match with two wickets on successive balls, Mahipal Lomror played his best IPL knock to date and smashed 54* off 29 balls. Lomror’s vital knocking took RCB to an impressive first innings total of 181/4.
