An anonymous officer told the newspaper that Singh had already been suspended since April last year while an investigation was being conducted by the National Central Bank on his behaviour. She added that the investigation was recently concluded in an unrelated case of misconduct, after which a decision was made to dismiss him from service.
While CNB Managing Director Satya Narayan Pradhan confirmed the report, Singh declined to comment. “The matter is pending with the Ministry of Interior,” he was quoted as saying.
Following allegations against the NCB Mumbai team, including former district manager Sameer Wankidi, a separate vigil inquiry was launched into the Cordelia raids, which ended in November 2021. As a result, administrative proceedings were initiated against seven officers. However, the results of the investigation were not released to the public.
On 2 October 2021, Aryan Khan and several others were arrested by the NCB on charges of drug possession, consumption and trafficking which arose out of raids conducted on Cordelia Crushep at the International Cruise Terminal in Mumbai. However, in the charge sheet filed by the agency in May 2022, the names of Aryan Khan and five others were not mentioned due to insufficient evidence.
Former District Administrator Sameer Wankidi Wankidi, who was later transferred from NCB, led the team that included Singh and some witnesses to raid the ship off the coast of Mumbai. Based on WhatsApp conversations, Wankhede’s team alleged that the defendants are part of a larger drug conspiracy, alleging that Aryan Khan had contact with foreign drug suppliers and that the conversations referred to “hard drugs” and “large quantities”.
Khan was granted bail on 28 October 2021 by the Bombay High Court after it dismissed the CNB’s allegations of a larger drug conspiracy on the grounds of insufficient evidence.
