A jury in Delaware acquitted her on Tuesday Gilead Sciences One of the allegations is that the US government has infringed patents held by the Centers for Disease and Prevention on a drug to prevent HIV.

Gilead was sued by the US government in 2019 arguing that the company was profiting from CDC patents through the company’s sales of the oral HIV-preventing drugs Truvada and Descovy.

But the jury found that the government’s patent claims for an HIV prevention system called pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, were invalid after a multi-day trial in federal court.

“Today’s decision confirms our firm belief that we always have the right to make Truvada and Discovery available for PrEP to all who need it,” Deb Tillman, Gilead’s general counsel, said in a statement Tuesday.

“Gilead will continue to support collaboration, including our efforts with the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the CDC that stretches back more than 15 years, as we all work together toward our common goal of ending the HIV epidemic for everyone, everywhere, Tillman said.
