The Punjab Kings (PBKS) bowling coach, Charl Langeveldt, has backed up the fire-ridden bowler Sam Curran after the latter had another poor match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The former South African player confirmed that Curran is someone who has the ability to come back strong and win matches for the franchise.

Curran scored figures of 0/44 from three overs in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) match against KKR at Eden Gardens on Monday 8 May. However, Andre Russell attacked Curran for three sixes in the 19th to somewhat seal the KKR deal.

Langfeldt said during the post-match press conference:

“He’s a winner. You want to support him. He’s our big bowler too, you can have days like that. He’s one of those guys who can come back and win a match. It’s just about going back to the drawing board, make it as simple as possible.”

In the 11 matches of the ongoing IPL edition, Curran managed just seven wickets at an average of 55.57 and a strike rate of 10.28.

Langeveldt went on to praise Russell for his impressive knock of 42 in 23 balls and added:

“He’s always a massive player, a game-changer. We wanted to keep him calm and tried to kneel outside his hitting zone.”

Russell smashed three quarters and three sixes, adding 54 for the fifth wicket with Rinku Singh (21* from 10).

“It was great of him” – Langeveldt on Arshdeep’s latest ending

After Curran conceded 20 runs in the penultimate over, Ardhdeep Singh had only six runs left to defend in the last over. He led the match until the last ball, but then threw a full putt, which Renko hit for four.

The bowling coach, Arshdeeb, praised his efforts, saying:

“He’s struggled in the last two games. To come back and pitch it to us, executing under pressure was a great finish from him. He kept it simple. He threw to his power, kept him out of the hitting zone, and created some pressure by taking teammates down.”

Punjab Kings next match in IPL 2023 will be against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, May 13.
