Yaya Toure’s former agent Dimitri Slough has claimed that the curse he once called for an ‘African shaman’ to place on Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to prevent the manager from winning the Champions League has been lifted.

Toure played under Guardiola at Barcelona and then at City for two seasons, but was benched by the Catalans and only started in the Premier League once in the 2017/18 season.

At the time, Toure said that Guardiola did everything to ruin his last season and questioned Guardiola’s style of selecting African players.

“The day he picks a team with five Africans in it, I promise I will send him a cake,” Toure said in 2014 after a “birthday cake” which saw the City legend’s birthday, allegedly, without acknowledgment from his club.

“I want to apologize for this,” Slouk told the newspaper.

“I think it’s time for this bitterness to stop – and I know Yaya feels the same because he only wants success for City.

“I can tell the spell has now been lifted by the shaman – and I think City will win the Champions League under Pep.

They have a good chance of winning it this year. But whatever happens, they will definitely win in the next three years.”

However, Toure distanced himself from the comments, calling them “lazy and rubbish”.

He wrote: “My ex-agent was quoted as a ‘damn’ by the media. Please don’t associate me with these lazy stereotypes and nonsense about African swearing!?

“The media… go ahead. This man does not represent me in any way. Amplifying these stereotypes is harmful.”

After leaving City five years ago, Toure moved on to Olympiacos and former Chinese Super League club Qingdao Huanghai before dropping his boots.

Since August 2022, Toure has coached the Tottenham Under-16s.

City have never won the Champions League, and it’s no secret that Guardiola and his team desperately want to win the title.

Manchester City, under Guardiola, came agonizingly close to lifting their first Champions League title during the 2020/21 season but lost out to Chelsea in the final. Last season, despite leading 4-2 on aggregate against Real Madrid until the dying moments of the semi-final second leg, they were knocked out of the competition.
