The chapter begins with a flashback. Back at the underground shelters in UA, Kendo stops the AFO spies and tells everyone that since the load-bearing boxes won’t move, they must get out and use the motorized vehicles to escape the situation in Gunga. Civilians are told not to look at the place where Dabei created the heat field, but the Todoroki family does not abide by this order.
Realizing the dire situation, Rei asks Natsuo to protect his sister as she orders a chariot, which must obey a human command, to carry her into battle. Toya calls out, ignoring Endeavor’s warning that she will perish if she stays here any longer.
Endeavor realizes that she is using her ice to preserve her life and wonders if she plans to do the same to their son. Dabi, upon seeing Rei, utters the word “mom” followed by “natsu” and “fuyumi”, making her realize that her two other children have followed her into battle. She scolds them for being here, but Fuyumi says she doesn’t want to lose anyone else.
Natsuo wonders what would have happened if he had listened to Touya’s complaints when they were children and urged his older brother to come back to them. Endeavor considers using his fire to drive Dabby away from the rest of his family and hopes they don’t die in the skirmish.
