ISLAMABAD: The legal team of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan has been given permission to meet the former prime minister ahead of his case hearing in Islamabad.
Earlier today, Imran’s legal team and party leaders were denied access to him.
“We have been banned from meeting our client,” Babar Awan, part of KhanGeo News legal team.
At NUST University Chowk, Imran’s legal team has been suspended, and PTI leaders Babar Awan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and Asad Omar have been denied access to police lines.
Imran Khan was arrested outside the Islamabad High Court by Pakistan Rangers on the basis of a warrant issued by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
NAB has launched an investigation against Omran Khan, Bushra Bibi and others for their alleged acquisition of hundreds of qanats of land in the name of the Qadir University Fund, which is said to have caused a loss of £190 million to the national exchequer.
At the direction of NAB, an independent anti-graft organisation, the former prime minister was arrested by Rangers on Tuesday in connection with the Al Qadir Trust case. He was then taken to its headquarters in the garrison town of Rawalpindi for interrogation.
The Islamabad High Court later stated that the arrest was valid and reserved its decision on it; As a result, Khan’s legal team plans to challenge the arrest in the Supreme Court today.
According to the charges, Imran Khan and his co-defendants made amends of £50 billion – £190 million at the time the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) forwarded it to the government. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan registered the trust for the Qadir University project on December 26, 2019, Geo News reports.
