Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Delhi Capitals (Capital) by 27 runs in the 2023 IPL match yesterday at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Batting first after winning the toss, Chennai were held to 167/8. However, the bowlers came up with an impressive effort to restrict Delhi to 140/8.

D.C. got off to a terrible start in the chase, losing three wickets for 25 runs inside four overs. Captain David Warner fell for a duck off the second ball, cutting off a pass from Deepak Chahar to cover.

Phil Salt (17) looked dangerous again before he mistimed a Chahar pull to the halfway point. Then Mitchell Marsh (5) ran out after a horrific mix-up with Manish Pandey.

Pandey (27) and Rilee Rossouw (35) added 59 for the fourth wicket to give Delhi’s innings some substance. But neither of them could continue after starting. Pandey was trapped lbw by Matheesha Pathirana’s pacy yorker, while Jadeja’s Russo Michette Ravindra was long. The latter smothered DC with figures of 1/19 from four overs.

Axar Patel again tried to bat for the team, but was dismissed for 21 off 12 balls after being deceived by a slower ball from Pathirana. To be fair to Aksar, the match was out of reach for Delhi at the time.

CSK post 167/8 as claimed by Marsh 3/18 for DC

Delhi’s all-rounder Marsh claimed 3/18 as CSK were restricted to 167/8, batting first. Aksar (2/27) was also affected by the expulsion of Devon Conway (10) and Ruturaj Gaekwad (24). Not a single Chennai batter has reached the thirty mark. Ajinkya Rahane (21), Shivam Dube (25), Ambati Rayudu (23) all started and retired.

When Rayudu swept Khalil Ahmed over long, Chennai were in trouble 126/6. However, Jadeja (21 from 16) and MS Dhoni (20 from 9) added a decisive 38 for the seventh wicket. He faced the CSK captain Ahmed in the penultimate innings and slammed him for two sixes and four to ensure that Chennai finished with an aggregate of over 160.

Dubey top-scored for Chennai with 25 from 12, while Dhoni contributed 20 from nine. Jadeja (21 from 16 and 1/19) was a good all-round match. Pasir Pathirana shone again with 3/37, while D.C.’s opener was dismissed by Chahar.

For Delhi, Marsh (3/18) and Aksar (2/17) did very well. Rosso (35) has the highest score in the chase.
