Actor Dilip Joshi, who started his career in Bollywood with Suraj Barjatya’s romantic drama Main Pyar Kiya starring Salman Khan and Bhagyashree in the lead roles, once owned a travel agency. But the artist in it was not satisfied with the monotonous nature of this job and decided to leave it to try his luck at acting, which he knew was “a very unsafe streak”.
Appearing on Bombay Journey, Joshi said, “There was a stage in my life when I was a partner in a travel agency. From 1985 to 1990, it was a routine life: go to the office at 9 am and come back at 9 pm. We used to run luxury buses.” which runs between Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Bhavnagar.”
But, one day, he realized it wasn’t his “cup of tea,” and sat down to have a chat with his wife. He shared that he wanted to be an actor and she supported him. “She told me ‘we don’t want to be millionaires, we have enough to get food for ourselves,’” Joshi said.
After telling his wife, Joshi tells his father of his idea and gets his support too. “He has always been supportive. He told me, Go Tree Man Car, Fu Car (Do what your heart says), ”Dilip Joshi shared.
The actor’s gamble paid off, and today he has a successful acting career. He is currently seen playing the role of Jitalal in Sony SAB’s hit comedy series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, which is currently being cast in Soup.
Joshi was talented in acting from an early age. He started doing plays in school but this also hindered his studies. He revealed, “I chose the stream of science. But at the same time, I was doing many plays. I got many awards for the plays I performed in my school in the twelfth standard. But because of that my studies were marginalized and I failed in the twelfth position.” ‘Life Mein Pehli Baar failure hua main, kaafi bora laga’(I failed for the first time in my life, and I felt so bad.) Then I changed my flow to commerce.”
