The Atlanta Braves have revealed their newest jersey and it’s the same old jersey with one specific change. On the cover, there is now a gold Quikrete patch honoring the advertising agreement with the brand.

The Braves announced this on Twitter and released a statement from Derek Schiller, team president:

“Our expanded partnership with QUIKRETE heralds a new era for our team, as this will be the first time in the organization’s 152-year history that our jerseys feature a sponsored logo. With this opportunity presenting itself, it was important to us to engage a trusted, industry-leading partner and company with a history of supporting Braves community and Atlanta community.”

One fan was outraged by the news, tweeting:

“This is so stupid. Baseball was basically the last American sport that didn’t have this bull on the shirts. We’ve been berated with advertising in every aspect of our lives. Leave the god d**n shirts alone! QuikRite doesn’t need ad space. It’s huge.” Very. F**k this.”

This is so absurd. Baseball was basically the last American sport that didn’t have this crap on the shirts. We are berated by advertising in every aspect of our lives. Leave the damned jersey alone! Quikrete does not need ad space. They’re having a lot of sex. Damn that twitter.com/braves/status/…

Others shared the same feelings.

@tweet Why yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

@tweet It’s not too late to delete this.

@tweet At least it matches our color scheme 😒

@tweet Disrespect for the Braves organization, history, and our fans. I can’t believe you have sunk this low. Tear up the knots at all costs and remove those patches before they see the light of day. Sincerely, all Braves fans everywhere.

@tweet This tracks because a lot of our pitchers have arm stiffness

@tweet This terrible. No amount of money they’re paying can’t be worth the shirt being tarnished so badly.

Jersey patches are becoming more and more popular, so this isn’t a surprise. However, it is a huge disappointment to many fans. However, Quicrete CEO Will Magill said Via MLB.com:

“We are proud to have our hometown team wearing the distinctive yellow QUIKRETE crest on their sleeves. It is exciting to deepen our relationship with the Atlanta Braves as we work to connect with Braves Country and Major League Baseball fans through this first-of-its-kind partnership.”

The Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, and many others have adopted brand patches on their jerseys, and the Braves are neither the first nor the last to follow suit.

The Atlanta Braves remain in first place

The Atlanta Braves lead the NL East

The Atlanta Braves are doing something right if all their fans can really complain and it’s an advertising arm patch.

As it stands, the team is among the best in baseball and sits solidly atop the NL East with a 27-16 record — five games over the Miami Marlins in second place.
