Elevator Makes Free Fall from 10th Floor With Family of Six Trapped Inside

A newly installed elevator in Rajnagar extension in Ghaziabad allegedly caused a free fall down the shaft from the 10th floor after a family of six, including a 5-month-old infant, was tipped over on Monday.

The family was trapped in the elevator for more than 25 minutes. The elevator fell first from the tenth floor to the seventh floor smoothly, then made a sudden free fall to the third floor, before stopping between the ground floor and the basement, according to what he reported. The incident occurred in the Auro Chimera apartment and the management of the association claimed that the elevator was still under trial and therefore not officially opened for residents’ use.

The family filed a complaint against the association’s maintenance agency for negligence, and the police are looking into the matter.

After hearing their cries for help, some of the residents came to help and managed to open the jammed doors after trying for some time by placing a rod between them.

The family said there was a short circuit in the lift panels and, according to them, the security alarm and other buttons in life did not work while it was parked.
