Isolated violent incidents have been reported from other parts of Manipur including Indian boxer Mary Kom’s native village of Kangthi in Churachandpur district.
In a new wave of violence reported from Manipur, the home of Union Minister Rajkumar Ranjan Singh was attacked by a mob in Imphal East. The security forces had to use tear gas to disperse the crowd and control the situation. Speaking to CNN-News18, the minister said the attack on his home was politically motivated.
Isolated violent incidents were reported from other parts of the state including Indian boxer Mary Kom’s native village of Kangthi in Churachandpur district. The Nagaland National Socialist Council (NSCN) has condemned the attack on Kangthi village.
On Thursday, an indefinite curfew was imposed in Bishnupur district and the relaxation period was shortened by four hours in Imphal West as a precaution after renewed violence involving suspected militants and organized mobs left one dead and two injured. Former Central Reserve Police Force chief Kuldip Singh, who was appointed security advisor to CM Biren Singh after the clashes first broke out in the state on May 3, said the militants fired on a group of people in Trunglaupi area of Bishnupur on Wednesday morning. “One person injured in the shooting died on his way to hospital,” Singh was quoted as saying. Amid reports of fresh violence, a delegation of representatives from various political parties in the state met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Guwahati and discussed the situation in Manipur on Thursday. The delegation was headed by the head of the association, T. Satyabrata Singh and included representatives of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the National Date Front, and the National Police.
Speaking to the media about the meeting, Lishangtheim Susendru Mitte, Cabinet Minister Manipur said, “The main discussion was to restore peace in Manipur. The Union Home Minister stated that he will visit Manipur from May 29 to June 1.”
