Rains restrict parts of Delhi – NCR. (PTI)
Thunderstorms in the morning led to a few cases of power outages in the affected areas of the city
Officials said that electricity supplies were disrupted in some areas of the capital due to thunderstorms early Saturday morning, which damaged power lines and poles.
They said electricity supply in districts including Fatehpur Beri, Sainik Farms, Chhattarpur, Mundka, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Mahipalpur, Siraj Mal Vihar, Baljit Nagar and Dilshad Garden were disrupted at various times due to rains.
Thunderstorms in the morning led to a few cases of power outages in the affected areas of the city. Officials said the disturbances were mainly due to damage to overhead power lines, poles and transformers as a result of uprooted trees and broken branches.
The combination of wet, swaying tree branches near the overhead cables is also a safety hazard and can cause short circuits, sparks, and blackouts, said one of those responsible for the disturbances.
A BSES spokesperson said BROL and BYPL Harassment were on high alert to deal with the situation and pressed Quick Response Teams (QRTs) into service.
Power supplies were quickly restored in most areas. He added that it took a little longer than usual to restore electricity in some areas because cutting and removing trees is a time-consuming process.
A spokesman for Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) said gusty winds, thunderstorms and heavy rains hit the city in the early hours of Saturday and power supplies were affected in several parts of North Delhi.
He pointed out that the storm caused damage to the electricity network, which led to power outages due to trees and branches falling on power lines and overhead poles.
TPDDL spokesmen said it took some time to restore the natural power supply in places like Swatantra Nagar, Gautam Colony, Kohat Enclave and Mangolpuri Industrial Area where large trees fell on power equipment.
But he said that electricity was soon restored to all areas affected by the storm and rain.
The spokesman said that dedicated teams and vehicles have been deployed strategically in various places to meet any emergency.
In addition, adequate stock of essential spare parts, tools and equipment including transformers and switchgear was ensured to minimize recovery time in case of power outages.
