Yankees coach Aaron Boone has been suspended for one game by Major League Baseball for his recent behavior towards umpires.
The suspension comes after Bunn’s fourth dismissal this season and the second in just four days. In addition to the suspension, Bonn was also fined an undisclosed amount.
•
Boone’s ejection occurred during the third innings of a game against the Baltimore Orioles when he argued with home plate umpire Edwin Moscoso about the strike zone.
Boone believed that Moscoso had missed four calls and expressed his displeasure by raising four fingers during the argument. Despite the accumulated ejections, Boone stated that he did not believe it affected how the umpires called Yankees games.
While acknowledging that he has developed a reputation for arguing with refs, Boone doesn’t think it led to a quick hook from the refs.
He added that occasional biases may be present but emphasized that umpires generally approach each game with a blank slate.
Bonn also expressed his wish not to be sent off and hoped to start a long streak of avoiding dismissals. He made it clear that he had no intention of sending him off and that he did not think he was being targeted by the referees.
However, he added that some individuals may not appreciate hearing from him.
Boone’s suspension meant he would miss the Yankees’ next game against the San Diego Padres, with bench coach Carlos Mendoza taking over his managerial duties in his absence.
Boone has a history of ejections, leading the majors with nine ejections last season. His recent behavior prompted MLB to take disciplinary action, highlighting the need for respectful interactions between managers and umpires on the field.
