Max Verstappen won the Spanish Grand Prix from pole position on Sunday to extend the Formula 1 championship lead to 53 points and continue sweeping Red Bull this season with the team’s seventh win in the same number of races.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton finished a distant second to Mercedes as team-mate George Russell completed the podium on a cloudy but dry afternoon at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Verstappen’s closest rival, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, was fourth after starting 11th.

It was Verstappen’s fifth win of the season and the third in a row for the two-time Formula 1 world champion. The 25-year-old Dutchman also earned an extra point for the fastest lap.
