Mumbai Police arrested a 22-year-old man on Saturday for molesting a 16-year-old girl. It was alleged in the complaint that the accused molested four girls, including the complainant.
Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO).
The complainant in the case had come to stay at her uncle’s house in central Mumbai. When she went to the public toilet there, the 22-year-old accused walked in front of the toilet and kept staring at her. Frightened by this, the girl called her grandmother and went with her to her uncle’s house.
When she reported the incident to her uncle, it was revealed that the accused had done the same to two of his cousins, aged 19 and 18. Furthermore, another seven-year-old girl informed them that the accused had done something similar to her in January.
After this incident, the victims reached the local police station and told the police about the incident.
Accordingly, the police registered a case under Articles 354 and 509 of the Islamic Penal Code and Articles 8 and 12 of the Child Sexual Offenses Protection Act. At midnight on Saturday, the police arrested the 22-year-old accused.
The police are investigating whether the accused has misbehaved with other girls in this way.
