From CBSE Class 10 who was abandoned by her father to Topper NEET who started working as an agricultural laborer from the age of 13, here are 10 incredible stories of inspiring Indians.

Srija lost her mother the day she was born and her father abandoned her. However, she made her grandparents proud by being top tenth grader in the Central Board of Secondary Education Examinations 2022.

Reading the stories of people who struggled their whole lives and ended up achieving their dreams is very motivating. The struggles may be in the form of losing loved ones, battling poverty, standing up against stereotypes or even overcoming physical disabilities.

Here are 10 motivational stories that will make your day:

1. Dr. Chidanand Kumbhar

Born to a landless agricultural worker in Mudhol, Karnataka, Chidanand lost his mother at a very young age. The 29-year-old specialist who worked in a private hospital in Hyderabad topped two subjects in the National Eligibility (Super Specialty) Admission Test. In an examination written by at least 20,000 physicians across the country, Chidanand ranked first in the subjects of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

The doctor completed his primary education at Government Primary School, BVVS High School and then joined BLDE College, Jamkhandi taluk. It was the villagers who encouraged him to enroll in MBBS and he completed his studies with the help of government scholarships as well as with the help of some social organisations.

2. Jeff Gadfe

After the earthquake in Kutch, Javier is fascinated by the civil service officers who help the villagers rebuild the place. Born as the youngest of four children, he attended a government primary school and was later selected for Navodaya Vidyalaya. He completed engineering from SVNIT in Surat and worked for a few years to fund his civil service training.

Last year, Jayvir topped the Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) exam and got AIR 341 in UPSC CSE 2021, with Gujarati Literature. The 25-year-old is now the Deputy Collector of Vadodara. “In small villages like ours, the locals have always firmly believed that talatis (clerks), handlers (officers) and civil servants can make a huge difference to rural life. That is why I am here,” he told the Times of India.

3. Kabir Singh Suryavanshi

Kabeer’s parents did not expect him to study like his peers as the child was diagnosed with autism at the age of two. But it ended up having one of the highest scores in the CBSE Class X exams in 2022 with a score of 96 per cent.

Interestingly, Kabir falls under the general category and studied in a regular school. Kabir, who still struggles with communication, gives credit for his success to his counselors, therapists, and most importantly, his mother, who quit her job as a chartered accountant to become an autistic specialist. The family belonged to Bhubaneswar but moved to Mumbai for Kabir’s treatment and then moved to Gurugram for his education.

4. Reetika Sharma

Udhampur village in Jammu and Kashmir is a remote area once full of dense forests. Reetika Sharma belongs to this village where there is not even a proper education centre. I got 99.8 percent in the class 10 state board examinations. Her father works for daily wages in the Department of Persons with Disabilities and she attributes her success to her teachers and family.

“My biggest dream is to be a part of the Indian Army after passing the National Defense Academy (NDA) exam. If this is not possible, I would like to finish the UPSC exams,” she told Hindustan Times.

5. Srija

Srija lost her mother the day she was born and her father deserted her. Srija’s life was filled with torment. But none of this can diminish her determination and hard work. The 15-year-old girl who lives with her maternal grandparents topped the CBSE exam of class 10 from Bihar.

A student of DAV Public School, Patna, Srija achieved 99.4 per cent marks with 100 per cent in Sanskrit and Science. The teen aspires to become an electrical engineer and support her grandparents.

Her father left Srija after my daughter died. We have not communicated or met him since then. He remarried and now he must feel sorry after seeing the result of his daughter’s board,” her grandmother told Indian Express.

6. Avola Durgaprasad

Although the family often suffered due to poverty, Avola studied diligently and his mother was his greatest support. But his mother, who had been blind all her life, fell ill while Avola was preparing for the crucial JEE examination. Unfortunately, his mother died on the day of JEE Mains. However, Heartbroken, he is determined to fulfill his mother’s dream, and the 19-year-old attended the exam with 96.48 percent marks.

Avola never went to any training academies because they were very expensive and completely online. “I dedicate my achievement in JEE to my mother who stood by me throughout life. She was there to rely on her at all critical stages of my life,” he told The New Indian Express. The young man desires to become a civil servant later in life.

7. Sonali Bala

Sonali hails from Gundahor, a remote village in Chhattisgarh. The place is famous as a Maoist influenced area and the villagers here live in terror. To overcome all these hurdles, Sonali topped the Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education Class 10 exams.

Her father, Jaidev Bala, is a teacher by profession and she credits him for her success. Sonali wants to take medicines in the future to treat the poor for little or no fee.

8. Roshan Anjum Cave

From Gaurela-Pendra district of Chhattisgarh where power outages are a major hurdle for students, Roshan Kahef Anjum got 98.17% marks in class 10 board exams. She ranked second after Sonali Bala.

She is the daughter of a welder-mechanic who is struggling to make ends meet. Anjum’s father was adamant that he enroll his daughter in a good school, even though he could not afford the fees. The 15-year-old said her success owes to her father. Like Sonali, she too would like to enter the medical field to serve the poor.

9. S Aashika Rani

As a child, Ashika would dress up as a doctor and treat her friends as if they were her patients. Years later it got the first rank of Tamil Nadu under horizontal booking with 7.5 per cent among ‘Other Backward Caste’ category. Aashika was unable to attend any private training centers due to lack of funds and relied on the state government’s e-box training from Class 12 onwards.

“In our society, most families do not allow girls to study once they reach puberty. My mother’s fate is no different. Even though my parents did not complete eighth grade, they encouraged me to study,” she told The New Indian Express. Ashika, who is now studying at the Madras Medical College, would like to specialize in cardiology.

10. M. Alex Bundy

Born into a farming family, Alex Pandey started working as an agricultural laborer from eighth grade onwards, and this was followed by the death of his father. He and his mother, who was a laborer on a construction site, struggled to make ends meet. Encouraged by the Headteacher and Physics teacher, Alex applied for NEET and secured a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) seat under a 7.5 reservation quota.

He studied at Government Senior High School, Poosalpuram and is now pursuing BDS at Government Dental College, Cuddalore.
