Manchester City legend David Silva reacted to his former club winning the first UEFA Champions League title in its history. Pep Guardiola’s team defeated Inter Milan at Istanbul’s Ataturk Stadium on June 10.

Spanish midfielder Rodri scored the match’s single goal in the 68th minute. Inter, however, threatened City’s goal after falling behind. Romelu Lukaku missed a golden opportunity. The Cityzens clung on to the slender lead, thanks to Ederson Moraes’ strong display between the sticks.

Silva responded to the win as he wrote on Twitter:

“Europe champions !!!”

Silva, currently a Real Sociedad player, made 436 appearances for Manchester City during his time at the club. He scored 77 goals and provided 140 assists for the team.

Silva won 14 trophies with the club, including four Premier League titles and two FA Cups. But the Champions League remained elusive for the midfielder.

Rio Ferdinand praises Manchester City after winning the Champions League

Manchester City’s victory in the Champions League also meant they won the treble this season. They became the first English team since rivals Manchester United (1999) to do so.

United legend Rio Ferdinand has paid tribute to Pep Guardiola’s squad for their amazing feat. Speaking of the treble winners, the former centre-back said (via Mirror):

“These guys have produced some football that is out of this world individually, but as a group this team will go down in history. They deserve it. A great team. They dug deep when they needed to and they’ve been able to play both sides of the game.”

he added:

“That was the difference between this City team and the previous one. They can pass, they can play fantasy football, but when necessary they can dig, roll up their sleeves and fight through matches too. Balance is everything in this team.”

Meanwhile, Guardiola has now won the treble with two different teams. He previously did it with Barcelona during the 2008-2009 season. The Spaniard became the first coach to win the European treble with two different teams.
