The Congress government will launch a ‘Shakti Scheme’ across the state, the first of five guarantees it promised ahead of the elections, at 11 am this morning.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to launch the “Shakti Scheme” on Sunday under which women will travel for free on state-run buses. The Congress government will launch a statewide ‘Shakti Scheme’, the first of five guarantees it promised ahead of the elections, at 11 am this morning.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Siddaramaiah will board the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus number at around 11 am at the Majestic Bus Station and assume the role of a conductor.

During the trip to Vidhana Soudha, the Chief Minister will distribute ‘Shakti Smart Cards’ to the female travellers.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who is in Ujjain for prayers at Mahakaleshwar Temple, said that the state government will implement all five promises soon.

“I gave Mahakaleshwar as a government to serve the people of Karnataka, I came here before the elections too… Today we are launching a great programme, free buses for all Karnataka women. We will fulfill all five promises that were made.”

CM Siddaramaiah also directed that the plan be launched by ministers and legislators in their respective districts and constituencies.
