One FIR was filed incorporating complaints from six wrestlers, while a separate one was registered based on a complaint from the parent of a minor.
Singh allegedly molested female athletes, including “dragging hands over breasts and touching navels”, according to information provided by Delhi Police on directions from the Supreme Court. It was also alleged that the BJP MP asked for “sexual preference” rather than professional help and chased after the women, state FIRs.
Earlier on Friday, the Delhi Police escorted the wrestler to Singh’s office to recreate the sequence of events leading up to the alleged crime. It should be noted that the official residence of Brij Bhushan Charan Singh houses the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) office.
Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had assured the protesting wrestlers that an indictment in the case would be filed by 15 June, after which the wrestlers suspended their protest.
The country’s top wrestlers, including Asian Games gold medalist Pheneesh Phogat and Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, protested against Singh and demanded his arrest for allegedly sexually harassing female wrestlers.
The protesting wrestlers on Wednesday met Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and agreed to suspend their agitation until June 15 after he assured them that an indictment against Singh would be filed by then and that the IFE elections would be held by the end of the month.
Some of the complainants also alleged that Singh applied for “sexual favours”, promising to help them in their careers. Singh denied all charges and said he would hang himself even if one allegation against him was proven.
